humble orthodoxy
this thought was dropped into my head this morning. I have, however observed that people who are evidently IN ERROR are less than humble when making their case. That led me on to wonder whether humility is a mark of orthodoxy? That is to say, when you KNOW why you do/believe what you do/believe (that it is soundly based on the Bible - that you are RIGHT) you don't need to keep SAYING 'Of course I know I am right though I am very gracious to those who hold a different opinion and are, therefore, WRONG' - which seems to me the antithesis of humility.
Yes, of course, Truth is important. Yes, we want others to walk in the light of what we know is true BUT we also have to recognise that some are predisposed against it and it is futile to attempt to brow-beat them into it - neither do we need to constantly 'defend' our position, precisely BECAUSE we know we have got that area sorted out. Of course, at the same time, when we are silent on a topic when our children hear us in discussion with others must not lead our children into believing that our silence is because of our uncertainty - we have to make sure our children know what is right too.
What I hope to be working on is 'recognising the Body' and dealing in a way which is 'profitable for building others up' with all those I am priveledge to meet (meanwhile praying that they will be moved deeper into the one Truth revealed from Heaven).
