My son has gone to college for the first time. He was away and 'all alone' on his birthday (sniff). I spoke to him last night and asked him how he got on with his (basic literacy and numeracy) tests. the whole class (most of whom are younger than himself) had to sit the exam on computers. They could take as long as they liked. One or two of them were there for over 3 hours. David popped up at some point during the day and finished the questions in 30 minutes. The results were instantaneous. He got 95%. I don't say this to boast (and neither did he). The astonishing fact is that most of those other lads, 13 years ago, were signed up to full-time, State 'education'. how many people 'out there' think that if you are home-schooling you won't be able to do 'academics' at the end? These boys were subjected to an education system which, one year after it was 'all over' they have forgotten most of this basic stuff. The average score for these people on this test (with or without David's I don't know) was 40%.
and to think that there are civil servants who have persuaded themselves (and others) that adequate education can best be provided by the State, not parents....
It also makes one wonder what kind of future society we will have. These young lads are hindered in all kinds of ways because they are driven by sensuality and functionally illiterate. They don't quite know what to make of David but since he is willing to help anyone who asks him he's in heavy demand right now!
