How would you answer an Atheist who asked you 'how do you know God exists?' Not that I have been asked - but I might be. More than that, my children might be. I know that you can't convince someone whose worldview is opposed to yours anyway but it is interesting to consider what those we go along to church with might say in answer to the question. I am not encouraged when I think about what they might reply. Before I listed to Bahnsen debating Stein I guess I wouldn't have had much clue how to answer. Stein dismissed the 11 most common answers given by Theists to the question. One of the answers is 'I have a personal relationship with him therefore I know He exists' - that is subjective and womanish but then, given the type of songs we sing in church week in and week out it is to be expected that we wouldn't have much of a meaty answer to the question. Responding that the Bible is the Word of God because the Bible says it is the Word of God and that THEREFORE we know God exists, is also unsatisfactory. I don't suppose it is very likely that our children will be confronted with aggressive Atheists but being ready to answer such a question can only be a strengthening factor in their walk with the Lord. Now, my next job is to equip them to answer it....
