Yesterday, after ANOTHER discipline issue was dealt with, I suddenly felt that I had been doing this job long enough - I was ready for retirement. However, there's no prospect. The joys as well as the trials of raising children help keep one ALIVE at any rate. It would be nice to EVER enjoy the luxury of re-reading a book but to try and keep up with those I think important enough to read at all is struggle enough.
Currently I am benefitting from George Borrow on 'the Bible in Spain' . He was an amazing man. Unmarried he was sent by the British and Foreign Bible Society to arrange for hte printing of Bibles in Spain. Politics and a war-torn land worked against him but once he had had them printed he determined to travel about with a view to distributing copies of it. He knew that it was very possible that he might end up like Stephen but faced that prospect with true Christian manly fortitude.
Tomorrow we leave for the long-anticipated homeschoolers camp. It is raining (again) though we have just had a 3-day reminder of summer. Trying to make sure the house is tidy and orderly before we leave (because there is nothing worse than coming home to a messy house) has been the over-riding challenge of the past week. The end is in sight.
Yesterday (amongst other things) I sewed replacement beds (hammock-like) for the lorry, went shopping, made double batches of choc-chip cookies and ginger biscuits, 2 loaves of bread and two batches of rolls, got out 2 book orders, finally re-discoverd where the books with instructions for dances was, collected Timothy and Philip from the station - it was a messy sort of day but a lot was achieved. and all this is done in the light of the fact that we don't know we will have a tomorrow and we have just to enjoy today and work hard at what the Lord has in store for us, seeing to reflect Him in everything. Life is good, if tiring.
