Ron was not allowed to eat anything because he was to be going for surgery - until some time after I left when he was told he was allowed to eat (and someone brought him sandwiches and tea) until 2am after which he was not allowed to eat. At 7am he was to don his operating gown and at 9am he was told that, after all, he wouldn't be going for surgery today - instead he's to have an MRI on his shoulder. This was 'before they operate' - which means he now knows that they intend to operate on it. he's not seen a doctor since yesterday morning in outpatients and if it were not for a kind nurse who keeps him as posted as she is able (!) he'd be entirely in the dark. I hope to visit this afternoon - after phoning to see that the plan hasn't changed again - I hope that this 'urgent' MRI doesn't (like the last one) take a week to arrange nor a further week to get the results.
Lucy, on the other hand, would have liked to be eating but she was busy being sick last night. Uncertain about whether visiting the day assessment unit was a good plan, she phoned. I suggested (what I always do when someone keeps being sick, because it happens to work!) carbo veg. I also suggested that she seriously increase her fluid intake to flush out her body (which is, after all, working very hard at waste-processing right now) in order to keep the headache (which she had from yesterday afternoon until this morning) from returning. Fred's livened up again this morning (they do have a habit of going quiet when you are most able to consider whether they might be OK or not - then liven up when you have less time to worry about it!). Ben has the car today but there is someone she can call to take her in to day assessment if, by this afternoon, she thinks that's best.
